Naturally i had to give myself one of the larger cuts i’ve had on my last day of work. It was a real blunt-knife as well, and i cut half-way through the tip of my finger (probably more like 1/4 to 1/3).. but it did NOT stop me from rocking out at the melange show on Friday night. It was a great evening, even though we bailed shortly after, and i had to introduce a new *gimpy* style of holding drum-sticks to ease the pressure of my newly created gash ..

After the show i ended up at the place my sis is house-sitting, she was having some people over for a gatheringslashparty and it was good to see Em and some other people (having not seen Emily once this week!) It was also amusing to see some complete fucking idiots (whom i have no-idea who they were) just making asses of themselves. Argh, sometimes drunk-people infuriate me so much, it’s like a chisel screeching down a black-board. ANDD.. speaking of drunks . .

Had a 21st on Saturday night, i wasn’t really there for long, but it was pretty-okay to see some people i haven’t seen in a while. What i found odd about this party was that there weren’t nearly as many drunks as i’d previously guessed. The birthday-girl in question was a girl i used to have a *huge* thing for (minds out of the gutter please) and we even kinda “dated” for a while in lower high-school .. if i recall correctly, i can’t remember those days too well. Anyway, it was strange to see some old pics of us, or pics where i was in them.. i was SUCH an awkward teenager! (*ulps*) .. what was great about the night was seeing Mike + Ant in shirts+ties.. those boys are the sex!.. anyway.. check the “more” section for some photos from the melange show.. warning.. no photos of stage antics.. just.. crap-antics.

if last week wasn’t my last week at work, this one shall be! .. so what am i going to be doing with myself.. well. Trying to survive the next 4 months with not much money. My mum’s going to the country to teach and my sis has moved out, so i’m left with the house. Mum’ll still be paying some rent, and i’ll have to continue paying my board to her.. but i’ll also have to manage all the bills and food-etc stuffs myself. BUT, i should get my tax-return.. and i’ll probably live off that!

Anyway, it’s gonna be GREAT!.. i’m getting Daev to move in here with me.. so we’re gonna g33k the house out and just be dorks and listen to lots of cool music and.. get drunk.. well, at least ONCE we’ll get drunk. We’ve told each other that. I’m not sure i’ve seen him drunk, and i think i’ve only been drunk in front of him once (or maybe twice).. i just hope he doesn’t try to pull a smewth mewve on me!

Staying in the theme of melange, we went into a studio today (Friday) for a brief 4hr session to lay down a track which is going to be used by a city-wide university radio (hopefully).. the story behind the recording is as follows.
I have a friend called Rob, and he’s good friends with a guy called Roger and Roger has a girlfriend called Louise, and she’s the exec for the said Uni-Radio Station. Anyway, somehow through Rob she heard some of our mp3s and was impressed and wanted to do an interview with us. Sprouting from this was the addition that they might want to use a track for a compilation, so we had to record a track for them. And we did.
It was actually quite odd and uncomfortable to tell the truth. We haven’t rehersed as a band solidly for a while, and we get pretty sloppy unless we’re rehersing like 2 times a week. On-top of that we decided to record a fairly new (and complicated) song.. which possibly shouldn’t have been the way to go. I’m just hoping the guy who recorded us can clean up the sound a lot and make it sound cool (here’s to hoping!)

Anyway.. before i leave, you guys all gotta have a look at Googles Calculator functionality!.. hahaa.. some of the better examples (just type these into google) :

i hate computers. i really do.

I know some people who enjoy trying different os’ and re-installing software/os’ all the time, but i’ve just come to my end of rope with stuff like that. I want to sit down and use the thing, and make sure it works!

Entwined in this problem of mine is the fact i’m a push-over. I mean, i’m the guy who can’t say “no” right?.. yeh.. that’s right. So all relatives of mine just assume that they can contact me when they have computer problems. I have a sister who suffers from serious anti-computer syndrome, and hates the things because they don’t always work, and i have the father who just assume they will always work. Him & I had discussed backing-up techniques once or twice in the past, him running his own business almost entirely out of his desktop computer, and lo-and-behold, the man doesn’t purchase a cdrw (or any other useable type of backing up device) until his hdd fails. Not just like gone slightly irky, or a few bad-sectors, i mean the arm inside the drive has gone insane (“Just what do you think you’re doing, Dave?” -HAL9000 ^wav) and is scratching shit all over the platters. I’d just assumed that as soon as you start hearing funny noises inside your computer, and you’re sure it’s not rodents, you would immediately back up your shit asap. But no.

So i’ve been re-installing os’/software on dad’s system using a spare 20GB drive i had lying about.. and it’s just wasted approx 3hrs of my life.

and i hate it.

To top all of this off, this morning i read an article discussing the diminishing values of the only chromosome that distinguishes men from ladies. ie: the Y chromosome, and according to some people, like the moon gathering craters and never repairing it’s surface, so to the male chromosome is slowly disintegrating. *sigh*.. what a day. and it’s only monday.

ahh, sunday mornings, if you wake up before 1 in the afternoon, are wonderful. You get nice breakfast (almost always garanteed in this place), you get awful video-hits on the telly playing all the shit that you despise, but has those in-built genetic booty-shaking vibes! .. you get to dance around to said awful tunes in your gown until approx midday, then do uni work.. *scratches head*

That’s not always a bad thing!

It’s good to see that australian cinemas are slowly catching up to the US-release dates, The Italian Job just finally started playing here.. and i’m 200% determined to actually go see this movie. There’s a whole stack of movies that have started that i just haven’t seen, which is quite-unlike me, because usually i’d see a movie at the drop of a coin.

On the html-front, i’ve been playing with a new layout for melange (with help from Daev) and thanks to Daev again for scanning a ton of images for moi, one of which i have my sneaky little eye on for my next layout (only because this one just didn’t work out like i wanted it to).. i’ve also been propositioned to re-work this other site that i made for this lil business in perth a whilst back.

the weather most of today has been prettttty damn horrendous. Right now i can hear the wind blowing furiously, eagerly anticipating the moment when one of the tall trees outside collapses onto my car or through my huge window. My rooms the front of the house, the ex-living area, so i have a large 4-5m long window that stretches from the floor to the ceiling. Speaking of window, it’s 10pm, and i notice the blinds aren’t closed yet, and i have zero idea if anyones perving in at me. For their sake i hope they aren’t, you really have NO idea when i’m just going to peel off my clothing and start gyrating insanely, or see me waltz around my room in my underwear pledging allegiance to this band or that.

Last night was one of those great evenings that make up for my usual anti-social evenings. I rolled 3 events (social-occasions) into 1 night of fun and turmoil.
Started off at the cott having a beer with bj + daev + james + nic, ended up going back to a friend of ours’ place to hang out. Watch them cook up some sausages and chatted. It’s quite odd what a group of males discuss when idly-chatting over beer+snags, but i don’t really want to go into it now.
Ended up on the other side of town for dinner with a friend of mine who’s flown in from adelaide (heya heather) and some of her mates. Which is always good, familiar faces whom i only see once or twice or thrice a year. Had the most DELICIOUS seafood risotto i have EVER eaten!.. If you’re in perth and have a chance to eat at “The Como” you should definately check it out. Great lil pub/restaurant (definately NOT what i was expecting)
After dinner i ended up back on the other side of town for 21st drinks for bj’s girlie, sarah. Little Creatures is one of the coolest micro-brewery-slash-resturant-slash-pub in town. It was good to once again catch up with all the people I had afternoon drinks with, and a few more. Got introduced to a couple of interesting people. A fellow drummer (was great to hear that he’s been in a band for about a year, and play music that some people have likened to the RHCP) and a photographer (lets hope he likes the offer to hang around with a band for a carton of booze and his printing costs are covered!)

All in all, i had a great night!

In OTHER great news (can life get ANY better!) there are rumours that not only will A Perfect Circle be playing at The Big Day Out.. but also The Mars Volta!!!!.. WOOO.. and even if the rumours aren’t true, it’s marked down that Metallica will be headlining for sure.. which in itself is great! (sorta)

Read This article (linked from /. i think) that i thought would be relevant to all the people out there who believe they might be suffering from IAD (Internet Addiction Disorder) as outlined by Michelle in one of her past (and most definately archived) entries.
What’s funny is the article talks about the supposed problem, and how it’s need for a classification has only arisen because of the impact this has on businesses. Which I suppose is how things work out there in the big-bad-scarey-wide world (of sports’n’suits).
They’ve also cleverly created an acronym to help practitioners understand and be aware of problems hopefully before they arise; MOUSE :
“More than intended time spent online; Other responsibilities neglected; Unsuccessful attempts to cut down; Significant relationships discord; Excessive thoughts or anxiety when not online.”

Cheers to people who study things! (anything), and who can find the patience and will to fine-tune themselves to study one-singular point of information til all data of that point has been extensively and exhaustively covered.

woke up super-early this morning, and somehow have managed to spend most of my time NOT getting ready, which is what i should be doing. I mean, i was late last week cos i bummed round, and it appears like i’ll be late again. Stupid 9am uni tutes.. who do they think we are!?

My rooms looking like a bomb exploded in it, my drum equipment sprawled out everywhere with clothes dangling all over it. My desk littered with papers from last semester, spilling out onto my other chair and then onto the floor. My other desk is littered with all sorts of mail (bills/invoices/etc) which i haven’t sorted into one of those funky accordian-filling-thingoes, because i haven’t yet bought one for this financial year (even though we’re more than a month in now).. ARGH. In fact, these piles have gotten so high i’m slightly apprehensive about cleaning them up for fear of finding food-stuffs hidden underneath. Waiting to jump out at me. (As i’ve heard highly-intelligent-evolved mouldy-foodstuffs can do!)

Anyway, this new layout just .. just isn’t working for me, i’m finding that there’s a slight pause in loading the page just after the current winamp (PHP i don’t remember you EVER giving me trouble before).. i’m not sure if it’s just me, if you have the same problem can you comment? I also haven’t finished it yet. I was going to incorporate this clever thingo on the right-hand-side, but now the whole feel of it is clashing too much for me. I wanted to have it a bit twisted and photo-ey, with a touch of geometry, angles and stuff. But it just irritates me now, and i’m starting to remember my wonderfully boring plain-layout i had before.. i might have to start thinking about that.

Anyway, i have to finish this up so i can bathe and get to uni. Don’t forget to check out my camstills section, more often than not when i take a pic, i take 5, and now with the 4images album installed, i’ll prolly be sharing them too.

this week has consisted of an assortment of goodies. It’s like when u go to target and get a make-your-own cup of lollies, and you just pack it with all the yummies, always remembering to squeeze the jelly lollies into the gaps.

First up on the list of tasteful-delights, Emily got back on Sunday. Which means amongst all the other things i’ve been trying to do, em’s been my jelly-lollies, squeezing in time with her as often as i can! (it’s not as shocking as it sounds)

Secondly uni started up again (1st week), which in-itself is great, except that i just have been so busy i’m already 3 weeks behind :(

Thirdly i’ve had 3 gigs this week with 2 bands. Melange and BLAST furnace. (All of the above shows were a great success)

Lastly, and the thick-deathly-sweeet icing on the cake, Work. The apprentice went on holidays and so i was filling in for him. Which entailed 5 days work of about 7-8hrs each.

All added up, with getting to work @ 8/9am and staying up til 1-2am (after the shows) i’ve been seriuosly neglecting my sleep..

but i am alive, sorta.

Sorry that this entry is lacking depth. That shall come back when my brain returns.
