Why:
Well, after seeing the queens play an amazing set at a previous BDO I got into the Songs For The Deaf album. And I loved it. Quite a few months later I would have found myself at work where instead of the “Songs” album they played the “R” album. And whoa. I guess it’s the same old story as with so many bands - it’s always the first album which is the most innovative and creative and just awe-inspiring. But I have to admit that I like the way that the queens have matured and changed over time. Lullabies is no different. So yes - this was just one of those albums that I had to buy.
Thoughts:
This album, similar to Songs falls into that category of a great album with only a limited amount of really great songs. Not to say that I won’t love and cherish it and count it as one of those timeless albums - because I’m sure it will become like that too.
Songs which have really stuck in my head? Tangled Up In Plaid. There’s something about the drum, bass line in this song that really works for me - it’s definately covered in enough Queens guitar sound and bopping-sort of rhythm that just.. makes me wanna squirm. This song comes on and I want to move my body. But that’s not all - no. Little Sister, Someone’s in the wolf, and Medication. All great tracks.
So far I wouldn’t say it’s as good as Songs - but I think with a few more listens it’ll probably fall in besides songs - but not as good as R.
